Of course, you won't always win all the bets, so how do you put the system to work to recover your losses?

It takes a little understanding, but here's how the system looks for common loss variables: If you lose the first bet, your loss is just 1 unit. Supposing you win the first bet, but lose the second, your net loss would be 2 units. If you win the second, but lose the third bet, you'd have a profit of 2 units. If you win the first 3 bets but lose the fourth bet, you'll break even.
