Online Baccarat History

Baccarat is a classic Vegas casino game - but its history is shrouded in myth and debate, with 'baccarat' meaning 'zero' in both French and Italian. However, there are well known facts about the game - so check out the mystical origins of this casino classic.....
What the Tarots say?
According to old texts, baccarat was first proposed by Felix Falguierein during the middle ages. What's most intriguing is that he played with a deck of Tarot cards - claiming the game was based on an ancient spiritual ritual involving a blonde virgin and a fateful dice, which decided whether she would become a goddess, be banned from prayer or walk into the depths of the sea. Whatever the truth - baccarat seemingly has divine qualities! Later, the Italians claim the game was taken to France around 1500 A.D, and kept a secret of the elite until it made its way into the casinos.
Evolution of a casino classic.
Baccarat's fame soon began travelling the globe, as sailors took it all over Europe and later to the Americas. Throughout its journey, baccarat's rules were adapted wherever it went - but the fundamentals of the game never changed. The French created 'Chemin de fer', then the English European Baccarat, and later via South America, Tommy Renzoni created a hybrid game in the 1950's - which eventually made it's way to the casinos of Vegas.

New generation baccarat.
Baccarat was always considered an exclusive game, and was revered as a game played by refined high ranking gentleman. However, the development of mini baccarat was to give the game mass appeal - largely due to low table limits. Mini baccarat has become immensely popular in online casinos, meaning if you're not a Vegas high roller, you can still enjoy the classic allure of baccarat.
