The Basics of Blackjack
The objective in any Blackjack game is to get a hand total of 21, known as Blackjack, or as close to that as possible without going any higher, all whilst beating the dealer’s hand. The game is played between you and the Dealer, and at the start of each round you’ll place your bet.
You and the Dealer will then both get a hand of 2 cards. The number cards carry their face value, royal cards are worth 10 and aces are worth 11 or 1 depending on the rest of the hand. You’ll be able to see both of your cards and one of the Dealer’s, and must decide what to do next.
This is where the game’s real skill lies, and there are different rules and possible moves in the different game variations. When you’re satisfied with your hand and you Stand, your cards will be compared with the Dealer’s.
You win if you have Blackjack, if your hand is less than 21 and the Dealer’s is more, or if both totals are under 21 and yours is higher. Like most online casinos, Spin Palace pays out money for winning bets and 3:2 for Blackjack.
Live Dealer Blackjack
Playing Blackjack with a Live Dealer is as immersive and interactive as online casino play can get, and we have several great versions lined up for you here at Spin Palace. You’ll feel as if you’re at the best table in a premier land-based New Zealand casino, without having to leave the comfort of your own home.
Professional (and gorgeous!) croupiers will shuffle and deal the cards for you. You’ll be able to watch all of the live action unfold as it happens, and all you need is a reliable Internet connection to ensure successful video streaming.
Live dealer games are a great addition to your Blackjack game play, and will make every second spent at Spin Palace even more entertaining. Don’t think of the Live Dealer games as a replacement for the other casino games; let them complement, rather than compete with each other.

Advanced options at the blackjack table
As part of our mission to provide the best online blackjack app at Spin Palace, we’ve included genuine advanced blackjack options such as “splitting”, “doubling down” and “insurance”. When you have two cards of the same type (eg. two Kings), you can split them into two separate hands. Your original bet goes on one card and an equal bet on the other card. If your first two cards total 9, 10, or 11, you can double down your bet by placing a bet equal to the original. You then receive one more card, face down, which is revealed at the end of the hand. Insurance is a side bet. When the dealer’s upcard is an Ace, you can wager up to half your original bet that their down card has a value of 10. Try these options out for free in demo mode in our blackjack online casino.
A range of great blackjack online variants
Online blackjack in NZ has a number of entertaining variations in addition to classic blackjack. In Atlantic City Blackjack, for instance, the dealer’s first card is dealt face down. Bonus Blackjack comes with a side bet that pays out 5:2 on 2 suited cards, 25:1 on suited Jack and Ace and 50:1 on suited Ace and Jack of Spades. The dealer must also draw on a soft 17. European Blackjack allows only one split, Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack has an optional side bet based on the value of your first two cards and Perfect Pairs European Blackjack comes with a Perfect Pairs side bet. Live dealer blackjack also has unique variations. In Speed Blackjack, players make their initial decision simultaneously and the player who decides fastest is dealt their card first. Infinite Blackjack can accommodate a limitless number of players at the table, and Lightning Blackjack introduces randomly generated multipliers for potentially higher payouts.
